Businesses have gone digital and every day, more and more businesses are going online because they have discovered the potential in the digital world!
Did you know that many businesses do not have only offline stores anymore? They do their businesses online and make massive sales. That could be you, but there is only one problem, you have no idea how to get your business online.
Since the advent of social media, traditional advertising has continued to die a slow and painful death. Public relations companies are focusing on creating contents and carrying out campaigns for the internet community while relying less on traditional advertising. Most things about business have been digitalized.
The world is moving forward and advancing with technology. You either get on with the programme or be left behind.
This brings us to the main question; how do I get my small business online? Here are some ways to achieve that:
In this current world of social media and tech, most smart businesses out there are focusing more on building a strong online presence. A significant of this effort is put on social media.
You should try to leverage social media to put your business in the faces of your potential customers.
If you do not think you have any money to get a website for your business, social media alone is still a good idea for now. You can squeeze out a little money to pay an influencer with good engagement on his/her platform that will help promote your business.
But a very important first step to take is to find out where most of your potential customers are.
For example, if your business targets older people, I would suggest you pay close attention to selling on Facebook as most older people who are your target market is more active on Facebook than other platforms. If on the other hand, your target is mainly the younger generations, then consider Instagram which has a large number of younger people using them.
This is another fantastic way to get your small business online. As a business, you can attract a highly targeted audience by creating content around the goods you sell.
While it might be tempting to focus on selling, it is important to understand that the purpose of a blog is to give your audience useful information; but at the same time, you can find that opportunity to advertise your products or services because when you create content around what you seel then it is likely that the type of audience your blog will attract are your potential customers.
There was this Nigerian celebrity that had an accident with hot water, she was able to treat it and got her skin popping. After the incident, she created a skincare set and on her blog she told the public that it is the product that helped her.
But, her blog wasn’t just about selling her products. She provided useful tips on how maintain a glowing skin, including what to eat, how to take care of your skin and so on. Then when appropriate she introduce her product, like: “While you are following the tips for healthy skin, use my products to help you on this journey as it helped me.” And it worked! She sold out and people kept coming back to her page because of the skincare tips she provided.
So, the idea is to create useful contents related to your products and use the opportunity to also make sales!
Selling on Social Media Marketplaces
These past months have been eye-opening for me. I discovered a marketplace on Facebook called Spangler where there are thousands of buyers and sellers and following it for a while, I noticed that people make good sales from there all day long as they come back with their sales testimonies.
Almost everyone is on Facebook and if you are, you should find marketplaces like this where you put your goods for your potential customers to see.
Paid advertisement is another way to get your small business online. I want to believe you come across such ads on websites, Google or social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
Ads can give quicker results than other options like blogging or being active on social media. But the difficult part is that to run a successful ad campaign that gives the desired results is not easy. It took most people a lot of experiences, money and trials and errors to get it right.
If you are entirely new to online ads campaign, you can hire a professional to do it for you. However, you have to be very careful about this because there are a lot of scammers who pose as online gurus that claim they will help you create the ads that will convert to sales.
Whether you are hiring someone to help or you are doing it yourself, know who your potential customers are and make sure that the ads are targeted at the right people. If not, you may spend so much and make zero sales.
There are online marketplaces and eCommerce stores which you can liaise with and get your goods there.
The marketplace takes a little percentage from the sales of your products and you take the rest.
Personally, I do not like to go out of my house to get anything. I live in Nigeria and with platforms like Jumia and Konga, what am I looking for outside? They bring my goods to my doorstep. Most times, I even order from Amazon and I get my goods delivered.
Interestingly, I am not the only one who loves to shop online; there are thousands of busy people in every city today who would rather get what they want from a reliable online store than to purchase in an offline store. Do your research and find out how to collaborate with these e-commerce platforms.
Moving forward, I am positive that these five tips can turn your small business around if you do what you have to do at the right time and through the right channels.
If you are active on social media, you can get your small business online by promoting on your page.
While I do not encourage you to target your family and friends, that can also be an opportunity or plead with them to retweet and share until it gets to your prospective clients.
